Come to think of it, Hong Kong’s handover in 1997 was genuinely a correct move—Even if the 99-Year New Territories lease was nonexistent, a 21st century Hong Kong is indeed better off without Rule Britannia.

I’m actually glad that Hong Kong left this mess, and while of course the Pearl of the Orient has long past its prime, it did not have to share the same fate as ‘neoliberal’ Tory Britain.
